Your First Session

The goal of a first session is to make sure that I can offer you helpful help. To that end we will spend time going over policies and procedures of counseling with me. After that, I will tell you a little bit about me so that you can have an idea of whom you might be working. Next, I will turn it over to you to give to me an overview as to the season of life that you are in, and how you hope counseling can be a part of that season. Finally, I will give you my prognosis—how I would work with you; you decide if that sounds like helpful help, and we decide if we feel like to fit each other, if we understand each other and feel comfortable with each other. If the answer to both of those questions is yes, we will then schedule the next appointment and really get started. If not, then I will give you some names and numbers of counselors that I think can serve you better than what I have to offer. Counseling is about helpful help, and that begins in the first session, assessing as to what kind of helpful help you need and whether I can be the provider of that help.

There will be certain paperwork for you to fill out and bring with you to the first session.  Please fill in the info form and the two authorization forms to the best of your ability; please read all of the consent form before the session—we will use it and sign it during the first session.
